When the engine is switched off, nothing changes (speedo and rev counter still in same position i.e. 15 mph @ 1500

There is also no bleep when the door is opened to remove the mag card but the interior lights do come on when

removing the card before the door is opened.
I have been able to reset everything by disconnecting the earth lead of the battery and then reconnecting. All is ok

for the next journey but when left for a few days (car is only used Sat & Sun) the same happens again.
I have removed the battery and charged for 24 hours but the same happened.
I did go out one night and with the lights on; the dash lights flashed three times and then remained illuminated but

the speedo and rpm counter went below 0 (as switched off position) also no fuel or temp gauge. When reached

destination, switched off, pull card out, the dash remained illuminated. It was still illuminated after an hour so

had to remove earth lead again to reset. All ok until the next journey again.
I have also noticed that the drivers window during the first few minutes of starting, would only open about an inch

of a time. This is a one touch open and close. The others would all open ok. After about ten minutes it would work

as normal. Does this vehicle have multi-plex wiring?
I thought I'd search the internet for this problem thinking that it must be a common fault.I did find that a lady

had the same problem but there was no final answer to the problem.
I detest the thought of taking the car to a Renault dealer although I probably know I have too, but can anyone

enlighten me on what to try beforehand? I know it is a fault of Renault and they will just rub their hands together.

Any help in this matter would be greatfully appreciated.
I have the same problem on my Laguna II Y reg only 40000 on the clock and it appears to be a common problem. I can see you posted this in Oct 05; have you had any joy yet. All my symptoms are the same and my car has failed the MOT on it purely because the garage couldnt read the ABS sign, not for any other reason. Have you found anywhere that could repair the instrument panel; like you I dread the thought of the cost at a Renault dealer and my local garage cant help me.

Would be interested to read feedback and updates from any members who have found a solution to this problem or wish to explain how to get the instrument dials out of the dash board..

Replacement Dials can be obtained from Renault Breakers Yards and of course good old e bay if you stuck in the meantime..

Try looking through our links section for Renault parts contacts..

I have added the thumbs down icon to this thread to indicate that further member feedback is required.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned but have you tried doing a full reset of the dash?

1. unlock the car.

2. press and hold the trip button (end of wiper stalk).

3. insert keycard (while holding trip button).

4. let go of button.

5. enjoy swirly needle dancing display.

6. press trip reset button on dash to reset.

worth a try at least.

I'm sure there is also a way to reset the service trip in there somewhere but haven't found it yet...

I have the same problem. My car is currently in a garage having the headlight bulbs replaced and they are going to quote me for the repair of the passenger electric window, the air conditioning switch and a replacement dashboard. (not a Renault garage).

I have also contacted watchdog as earlier replys suggested.

My brother in law has the same car and he has already replaced his dasboard.

I have the same problem affecting a Laguna 2001 1800 estate. Was able to pull out the fuse to get the instrument panel to work again for a couple of days. Now the cold weather is around the instrument panel is US. Not sure if it is an easy task to change oneself. Suspect will need to go to Renault dealer to get something electronically reset. If it is such a problem as this forum suggests then Renault should at least replace at reasonable price. If Renault cannot see there is a common problem then they must have idiots running the company? Don't think I will be buying Renault again. Anyway has anyone changed the instrument panel themselves?????
