clown car

Got back off a two week holiday in majorca on fri, went to get the laguna out of the garage thiis morning and as I was reversing there was a crack then a grating noise something rubbing on the front o/s tyre, yep you guessed it, coil spring snapped, it has shattered with a big chunk of it on the garage floor, I hate to think what might have happend if I was traveling at speed anywhere .

I wonder what else can go wrong with this pile of trash, two years down the line and its still giving me grief, it reminds me of one of those cars that the clown drives into the circus ring and all the doors drop off and the bonnet shoots up with steam hissing out, farting and popping from the rear end.

Anybody get any joy with Renault replacing their coil spring FOC out of warranty cos I have read they are a common failure ?

Oh and where the hell is all this rain coming from, it was raining when we left for majorca and still raining when we got back, we are now getting a bad thunder storm as Itype here in notts, weather eh.

Commiserations Polecat welcome back.

This seems to be a common fault in modern vehicles from all manufacturers whether it is down to materials, the state of our roads the extra mileages we do these days I'm not sure.

I have only heard of Renault replacing a Coil spring when a vehicle is still under warranty even then they have only reluctantly done so.

You could register your complaint with RCS as the more that are registered the more likely any action will be taken to rectify these ongoing Coils Springs breakages.

as you say, it does seem common and as Otto says try RCS , as for the rain at least that is not Renaults fault

NSF coil spring, went with a loud crack yesterday as I was reversing off the drive, car dropped a couple of inches, couldn't drive the car as the knacked spring was sticking in the tyre.
I got a new one from andrew page auto factors 46 and fitted it, I was a bit quicker this time just under 2 hours.

Looking at the broken coil it looks like an identical break to the OSF.
Are they making these springs out of peanut brittle
Never had one go on the older cars iv'e had.
Just another page in the catalogue faults Iv'e had with this f@@kin laguna.

Sadly Renaults aren't the only cars to suffer broken springs - just ask any independent garage. Personally I think its down to the plethora of speed ramps we have to negotiate nowadays.

Strangely though I have never heard of one failing at speed - no doubt if I'm wrong someone will correct me!!
