Service cost was ripped i think

Hello Everybody (Now i thinking of Dr.Nick)

My girlfriend rang the garage local (xxxxxx) to her work for a M.O.T of her 53' Megane. She asked for a service at the same time to save hassle. They said it would be a "major" service because her car has 40000 miles on the clock and it would be approx £200

I thought this was expensive but its her car so she went with it. When she collected the car later in the day she was presented with a bill for £424. The car sailed through the M.O.T but it was the service that i could not believe.

They charged £217 for the service and then £100.53 for service parts. She assumed the £217 included all parts needed for the service as did I. She was not told that service parts were extra.

Do you think this is a fair price? I could not believe it her last car a peugeot 206 full service cost £126 3-4 years ago. Maybe were just cheap!

See ya later

Hi there, I'm not sure I follow your maths - the total bill was 424, yet the parts used in the service was 100.03, and the labour was 217 - so where has the difference (106.97) been accounted for?

424 does sound a bit excessive if it was just a service (i.e. no cambelt change), and no major work was needed for MOT.

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.

An MOT is £50,and then I guess the rest is VAT.

If you could tell us exactly what was done, what parts were used and the hourly rate of the garage, then we could give you more of an idea on what sort of deal you got.

Was it a main dealer by any chance?
