Re: New user looking for buying advice

Im not interested in any VAG cars, we already have 2 Skodas in the household, and as good as they are, man they are dull. As for VWs, everyone I know with one, particularly the Mk5 Golf has nothing but issues, and with my budget, I would be looking at 7 years old or so and high mileage, so prime time for a new DMF.

I'm leaning towards the Laguna to be honest. I would be getting a 12 month main dealer warranty with it, for all parts and labour which could well be the clincher, fingers crossed they'll accept 6000 cash for the car

Well it sounds like your smitten with the Laguna and the 12 month warranty can't be a bad thing.

If you go for it I hope you experience with a Renault is a good one, just remember to get the oil changed more often than the recommended intervals and keep any drain holes clear.

Get them to throw diagnostics in with that parts and labour warrantee.
They'll be offering an external insurance warrantee and I'll bet that diagnostics aren't included.
Also worth checking if the labour is capped.
You don't want to find warrantee will only pay 50 per hour (with dealers wanting 90) when you've got bits of gearbox on your drive. (just looking on the worst side, not saying it will )

As for reliability, As said, luck of the draw.
I personally don't think that they are any more unreliable then any other modern car stuffed with electronics.... though we do see many older ones suffering from tired or wet looms and connections
Look over othr makes forums and you'll see they all have their issues.
Having a good dealer or Renault savvy garage nearby does help if it does go wrong.
Currently in Dancingdad's garage:
Qashqai 1.6 spark driven, Kia Sedona 2.9 TDI, Scenic II 15DCi 2004 (SORN) not quite RIP.
