Lag 2 NCAP star rating

How did the MK1 Lag 2 get a 5 star NCAP rating with an ISOFIX system that couldn't be used?

As far as I'm aware, they test the cars as supplied by the manufacturer, including the provided child restraint seats.

So two possibilities spring to mind:
1) Renault provided a non-ISOfix seat that still provided adequate protection.
2) They 'modified' (read 'hacked through') the seats in order to fit ISOfix seats.

The actual report is a bit vague, saying no more than that the provided seat fits to attachments on the adult seat (no mention of ISOfix.)

Euro NCAP - For safer cars | Renault Laguna

Later models (certainly the phase II) have zips in the seats so that the ISOfix rails can go through without resorting to the use of a Stanley knife.

I don't suppose you'd be that fussed about cutting the seats if you were about to do this to the car

errr, you do'nt have to 'hack' through the seats! it's only a couple of bits of thread that have been sewn over the holes. once you carefully cut these open you will see the mounting points. i was puzzled by this but it's actually 100 times easier to install the seats then with traditional isofix mounting points located between the upper and lower sections fo the seat. not to mention the 'angle' of the mounting points is also almost perfect for the seats to attach with no effort

Hi tomandjo, because you can use the ISOfix system, you just "unpick" the stiching ... a bit like you do when you buy a new suit and the pockets are stiched up.

Hope it helps

Why is it the older I get .... the better I think I was ?
