Re: Renault Scenic service query

The replacement of the cambelt is a maximum service lifespan, not a mandatory change at a fixed point in time/mileage.

You could get it changed every year, if you so wished. It would make no difference to the warranty company.

As long as you have paperwork to say when and at what mileage it was changed, and as long as you don't exceed that 5 years/72,000 mile period before replacing it the next time around - all will be well.

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.

How can they claim replacing the cambelt was classed as "good practice" - yet they want you to abide the manufacturers recommendations. It would seem they want you to abide the the manufacturer's code of practice but they fail to. For instance if they had to replace an engine would they expect you to use the old oil and filter - I think not!!

You are correct in seeking written confirmation regarding your service history - like all insurers they will do anything to wriggle out of paying or asking you to contribute.

Re: Renault Scenic service query

Agreed with all been said.
The damning thing would be to exceed the 72K/5 years between belts. Not to go past a nominal figure when it is solely written in the book assuming that the belt would not have been changed earlier.
You still need your 72K service and all it entails but not the belt. And if same garage who did the belt they could easily add a note to the service sheet that belt was not changed due to change at XXX miles and not required.

As for good practice, bet they'd have argued it was a necessity should you not have replaced belt and it had failed.
