Cliosport 172 scrapping advice

Hi Renault forums people!

My 172 has been told to go to the scrapheap in the sky by a local mechanic, he said I can pay him the 150 for collecting it and having a look / diagnosing, or he can scrap it for me to recoup his costs.

I am wondering whether it's worth paying the money and scrapping it for parts myself, or whether to just let him do it?

I think the engine is a gonner (mechanic said something like bent pistons? est'd about 1000 fix), the body panels have a quite a few scratches and dings on and the drivers seat has a tear in the fabric.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, i.e. whether it's worth paying to keep it, and if so what parts would be worth selling on and rough prices, or just to be done with it?

What they said...check what scrapyards would offer but 150 sounds about right.

You'd get more scrappng it yourself but depends if you want the hassle.

TBH, it sounds like the car was more than a bit past it's best, and given that the highest value part (the engine), is pretty-much scrap metal; then all you have left are ropey panels and interior. I don't know what the wheels are like - they might be worth something if in good nick, but then again - do you want the effort in sourcing a set of steelies just on the off-chance you can sell them on?

This is an option for you;

You can shop around for labour, and any ancillaries the engine doesn't come with, can be sourced from your own.

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.
