Megane 3. Good or bad?

Hi guys

I'm in the market for a new car.
First choice is the Megane TCe 115. That engine sounds just great!

The problem is, so many negative reviews can be found on the net. Is it really so bad?

I'm under the impression that the urban/extra urban mpg isn't really that good. Also a lot of road and wind noise.

The others I'm looking at are the i30 and the Cee'd.

Your feedback would be appreciated

Re: Megane 3. Good or bad?

The feedback & reviews of Meg 11 were by far worse, yet I had one for just over 5 years & other than a couple brake light light bulbs going up the duff, the car remained faultless.

You might be looking & thinking why does he drive a Toyota now.

I wanted a car that didn't distribute about 2 thirds of the heater output on the passengers side.

Re: Megane 3. Good or bad?

Hard to say on choices :

Meg3 coupe for me was the best value on appearance perf and size at the time. For example vw range appearance wize a scirroco was too expensive, similar spec golf too expensive even a polo with a yuk 3cyl diesel was more expensive.
No complaints really, but with intial heavy discounting, the resale prices dont hold up,once again thats in comparrison to initial list price.

Tce engines are supposed to be good but Ive never driven one.1.5 diesel is adequate.

The others you mention look ok too ,but are kinda derivative of the meg 3 shape.7 year guarantee on one of those?

On meg 3 age .Its over halfway thru its life cycle by now2012 facelift and it was based on the meg II platform from new.
So in 2 years time 2008-2016 there may be a meg IV out, with a subsequent resale /older shape value drop.
btw auris looks ok too no really not just sucking up! If youd bought a Yaris tho mate..Id just have said grats on the new car !

Just something to consider.

Currently in coup's garage:
RM III coupe 1.5dci FVT,Audi TT Mk1 ,a bike and too much rubbish.

Re: Megane 3. Good or bad?

Megane 3 a lot better than early Megane 2.Later Megane 2 much better than early ones.Mate of mine has Tce Megane 3 and as already posted fuel consumption isnt great, its a big heavy car for the engine to pull around.

Re: Megane 3. Good or bad?

I have the Meg 3 CC with the 1.4 TCE engine (must post up my thoughts on it soon). Renault quote 38.4 mpg for it. I have seen 42mpg on the read-out but that was in the first few days whilst I was getting used to it. But in real life I get 33 to 35. I blame the glass roof - which must weight a bit - the responsive engine - really shifts thro the gears. I drive it like it is meant to be. No problems with it in the few months I have had it' - mind you it only has 12k on the clock and enjoying it very much so. Only negative is the heater could be better. Also had a Meg 2 1.5 DCI for 2 years and a bit - nothing went wrong with it. You only hear of bad reports on the web rarely good ones.
