The only time I've ever noticed this has been when I've had the side lights on during the day (e.g. when it's raining) and I've found that the backlit panels can be rather dim. That said, I do have the dimmer turned quite a way down, as my TrafficMaster YQ's backlighting is genuinely atrocious, and if I have the instruments at a sensible level, it takes my eyes too long to adjust to the TrafficMaster map in the dark.

If the backlighting's not good enough with the side lights turned off (the dimmer shouldn't even come into the equation at this point) then I suspect there's a fault somewhere that's causing low voltage to the panel and centre console backlighting. Have you had a chance to compare it with another Laguna and see if that's any better?

Thank you Horatio for the interest shewn, I will in time have a go at producing some additional lighting slightly forward of the instruments. I've already done some prelims with good results.
I am aware that some other older folks have the same trouble in seeing decently the small guages and readable notices.
Thank you again Horatio, Kind regards Derek Miles.

Regards instruments, well on both the car and van they're anaolgue so can be seem all the time. Also on both the mileage/trip mileage is a little digital display that can be a little on the dim side in strong sunlight - but that doesn't bother me so much. I would be keen on a type of sun visor for the TomTom though!
