does anyone like me think that he hazards should go to a seperate trickle fed rechargeable battery ? having had an accident on a country lane where my batery was damaged was unable to put amy lights on which nearly resulted in my damaged car getting hit several times !

Excellent idea - I would agree - not only for hazard lights but also for central locking. It can be done but I haven't any idea how you would go about it. I have seen a similar sytem fitted to a Ford XR3 where the car had all exterior door and boot handles removed and covered over. I spoke to the guy who owned it and he said he had fitted an additional trickle charge small lead acid battery similar to those fitted to electric start lawnmowers but also required a system whereby it could only power selected circuits ( a bit like the system which connects to a caravan) - not too sure if this would work on a multiplex wired car though.
