Thumbs up Clio - Cambelt - General information

Hi all
I thinking about buying a 1998 'R' reg, 1.2 petrol clio. However there is a lack of service history and i dont really know much about renaults, so could anybody tell me when the cambelts are required to be replaced and approx. cost of this. The car has covered 97k mikes. Its starts up and seems to drive ok, i did notice the gearbox was a little stiff downshifting but thinking this may free off when thorughly warmed up, however if this is a tell tale problem, please tell me...! Also do clios give a reliable drive??? Is there any things which will need to be checked before i buy.

Many thanks

Mr. Wolf

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Cambelts are due at 72,000 miles or 5 years.

If you have no evidence to suggest that the belt has been changed, then have it done. It's not an expensive job to have done, but if it breaks it will be!.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
