I prefer the plastic panels, GRP I think, (as mark 3 espace) as the kids bounce off them rather than dent them (and I am not referring to when I am driving) and a scratch through the paintwork is much less of a problem.

I must admit that Im happy with my Laguna too (its a great looking car) , and was happy with my previous mark 1 Laguna too.

When I was unlucky enough to have an accident in the lag, I hired a new VW Passat to go to Scotland (1000 mile round trip) and I must say the comfort of the seats is appaling in comparison to my Laguna.

Even the wife said she didnt like the seats, and shes not normally fussy about what she sits in / drives (Shes got a Fiat Punto mark 1 - Yuck )

I think with all cars certain things do go wrong. When I had a Vauxhall vectra (before the first lag) it was always going wrong. Sensors and all sorts going..... decided to get rid and switch to Renault.

OK my Vel Satis is not without it's problems as some of you will now that the cat converter broke down recently but fixed with excellent service from a main dealer. During its time in the repair shop, its age, milage and value etc I did look at some other cars (from ford, VW and toyota) in view of changing but none (within my price range anyway) came close to the comfort and refinement and value for money as the VS, the only one my wife and I really liked was the grand espace initiale but was just outside the price range. Yes I am driving whats classed as a luxury car at the moment but in my driving lifetime I started with a renault and went onto 2 x 18's, a fuego, a 5 Gordini , a 25, 2 x 19's, 3 Lagunas, 1 Espace and of course the VS. Also within the household we have had cars from other manufactures and I must say that the renaults have been the best of the lot in terms of reliability, comfort and overall value for money.
Renault customer service on the SALES side has also been very good and I must admit that customer service from the SERVICE side, especially within renault retail (REA Group) has always over the years been pretty poor so I tend to use independants or large non REA outlets.
Ther are good and bad with every product not just cars, and good and bad within the brands, and judging by peoples comments, customer service from one of the luxury german manufacturers has not been that good lately.
I just thought that I would add a more positive thread, show my experience of driving with renault and thank those who offer ther help for free via this forum.

Let's face it Renaults are not terribly well built (our 54 Grand Scenic seems to be made out of old egg cartons) but they're very safe and (relatively!) reliable. Last year a bloke in a Saxo decided to run a red and ploughed right into the side of the Scenic - slight dent in our passenger door, whole front of Saxo stove in and leaking fluid all over the road. We hardly felt the impact. Says it all!

We've had minor electrical problems and a clutch issue, but the car has been much more reliable than the Citroens and VWs we've had before (VW are crap). The Scenic is our first Renault and we've just bought a 98 Laguna for a run-around - it is a fabulous beast!
