More Clio noises....

Hi all... just bought a 1997 Clio panache 1.2 5 dr with 25K miles. It runs fine but with one problem. When braking (or even sometimes if just coasting) there's a deep rumbling noise coming from the front. I can just feel it in the pedals and steering. The noise comes and goes, but it's there foten enough for me to worry! Seems that Clio's have trouble with noises!

Can anyone tell me what this might be before I get it seen to? Many thanks.

Had a similar problem on a scenic, disappeared if you touched the brake (for a while. Was simply a build up of dust on the brake pads. Popped the pads off, cleaned the discs and air blasted the pads and it went away (much to my relief ! was imagining all sorts of bearing problems)

Educated guess time...

As the car has done very little in terms of mileage in the 8 years since it was manufactured I would say that the wheel bearings are almost certainly damaged.

I summise that the car must have been stood for many months if not years.

Whilst stationary for this amount of time, with the cars dead weight being mainly over the front end, the wheel bearings will flat spot and the lubrication will rest at the bottom of the bearing race.

Fitting new ones should do the trick but of course pop it into a garage for a considered opinion as my guess may be completely wrong.
