Re: reno espace 2.2 black smoke

I do think low mileage at low speed diesels suffer. The servicing regime, particularly engine oil changing, just not frequent enough.

It's nine years old and chugging the black stuff out. Not the best start! !

Re: reno espace 2.2 black smoke

Black smoke from the exhaust denotes either an air intake or misfueling problem so obviously there is a serious problem somewhere. Modern Dci engines should run smooth and clean.

The 2.2 Dci engine has a notorious history of failing inlet manifold gaskets and aslo cracked inlet manifolds. Could also be a stcicking EGR valve fault or even leaking injectors. Personally I wouldn't put much faith in a Renault service history when it comes to the 2.2 Dci engine as neither checking the inlet nor EGR valve is part of any service schedule.

Re: reno espace 2.2 black smoke

Hi is the car advertised as spares or repair?.You have to ask yourself why has the owner not fixed the fault?.I doubt this will be something simple-its needs to cheap, really cheap.
As already posted it could be numerous things and could be a real money pit!
You only have to look on ebay at the amount of spares or repairs/non runner espaces.

Re: reno espace 2.2 black smoke

Has it got a [recent] MOT? That will be the point when your smoking will really get you into trouble, if you do buy it and it's still as bad then..
It would be interesting to look up its MOT history, to see if it has had problems passing its emissions previously
