3.5 revs at 70mph?

My Laguna RTi 2.0 '97 runs at around / just over 3.5 on the rev speedo at 70mph in 5th gear. Is it supposed to be this high? I swear on my 1.6 Escort, it was about 2.5

Laguna 1's are certaintly a bit short geared, mine is exactly the same as yours.I've given up driving over 60/70mph as it sounds like the poor old engine is going explode!.

There is a thread on this problem already, and many other Lag 1 owners say the same.

EDIT;.Heres one of the threads....

I can't be ar$ed with fitting a diesel box!.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....

I have a 95 Lag 1 and since I had a gearbox failure in 2004 the replacement (Renault supplied) gives 2K5 at 70mph the whole car seems quieter

My 1999 Laguna 2.0 8 auto reads just under 3000rpm at 70mph on a level road and sounds pretty relaxed up to about 115 so my wife tells me
