Early Ford KA

My friends Fiat Punto has been certified for the scrap yard on high, head gasket apparently shot, radiator p!SSing out, plenty of warning light on the dash, & an MOT less than a month away, so it's RIP

Any she's now set her eye's on early Ford KAs model unspecified as yet, however she's not looking to spend more that 1K

Anyone got an objective opinion on known issues / weaknesses of these Noddy cars please?

Re: Early Ford KA

Colin scrapped their Ka to buy a Kia.

Does that tell you anything.

I don't know what objective means so here's my thoughts.

All I know is they rot worse than Fiats and have the finnesse of a brick.
Made to a very low budget and it shows but parts should be cheap.
Ugly as sin with ill-fitting plastics.

Ask her what she wants of the car and what's it used for.
Cheap running costs
Looks pretty
Small size

For that money you can't always have it all.

Who's got the job of fixing it when if goes wrong.??

Re: Early Ford KA

Early ones rust , badly. Check around the fuel filler cap and around the sills. The 1.3 engine is very "tappety" and sounds harsh when reved, the Zetec engine in the later ones is far more refined .Base models are very very basic so try and and get a higher spec model unless she likes winding up windows , unlocking the car with the key and leaning over to unlock the passenger door.

I looked at a few of them for my daughter when she passed her test but due to the reasons above we settled on a Clio which was newer ,far better equiped , more refined and the spares were dirt cheap from ECP.

Re: Early Ford KA

I see as many early KA's on the roads as I see Mk1 Fiesta's. They've had their day unless there is a real minter out there for peanuts.
There's plenty of other small cars to choose from .. I would advise your friend to pick something else

Don't take without giving in return

Re: Early Ford KA

I dunno about Noddy car , but it certainly has been called the "nappy " car. or kaka.
Paul had + things to say mechanically etc about one he had.. but there are limits to substance over style.

How about an earlier micra,no great looker either, but not as bad,and the latest ones seem to have been styled on the earlier ones .

Currently in coup's garage:
