Question renault clio 1.2 stalling on start up

I have a renault clio 1.2 (1995)starts 1st turn of the key ,however it will stall about 10 seconds later(or come very very close to stalling before the auto choke saves it from stalling)it wont stall if i keep my foot on the accelrater lightly after about 5 to 10 mins it will tick over perfectly,i have changed the spark plugs to no avail, i am thinking of tweaking with the Choke to see if i can sort it that way has anyone got any other suggestion?

thankyou Neil

my friends car does the exact same thing altho it is a VW Golf, he changed the throttle body but that did nothing, i have sujested for him to make the cable ever so shorter to raise the idle but he has the mechanical knowledge of a chimp and can't be bothered, he probably says the same about servicing
