Thought I'd try starting a pole:

How much have you spent on your Renault this year. I would'nt include servicable items e.g. tyres, exhaust, oil changes etc.

I have spent aprox £800 - acquired the car in March.

:d Bought an Espace IV 2.2dci two weeks ago with the MIL light on and a loss of power for £2, 800 . The first thing I checked was the EGR valve, it was new. Then I had a slide under the car pulled the turbo intake pipe off to check for play in the shaft, it was new. I had a look at the TDC sensor guess what? it was new. I then pulled the injectors and sent them for testing , all 4 were not very good so I orderd 4 exchange units £860 didnt cure the problem though.
Had to go into hospital for an op ,it wasnt a frontal labotemy so could still think. I contacted the previous owner who had a turbo run away and take out the rest of the engine . A Renault dealer fitted a rebuilt engine and a new turbo,it lasted two week s untill the MIL light and lack of power appeard ,it went back to the dealer "every week for a year"until he was told by the dealer to sell it as they could not find the problem
Today I felt a bit better and had a quick look at somthing I had time to ponder over in hospital .
Low and behold there was the answer! the small vac pipe from the solenoid to the turbo had not been fitted properly at the engine change and melted on top of the turbo 80 pence So the next time your dealer cant find the problem with your car ,I dont condone violence ,but a hospital visit heped me fix mines.

bought a 52plate 1.6vvt megane with comfort pack 55k in march she knocked £400 off the asking price because it hadn't had the important cambelt change, the wife test drove it and said fine i'll take it and gave the lady owner £2300 a few days later i test drove it and said to my wife, dont feel right, took it renault specialist who drove it and said thats how they are, however these vvt engines suffer with the dephaser pulleys and they recommended changing it when having the cambelt changed, so its cost me £368 to have it all done and so far so good,i have now purchased a warrenty with warrenty direct for £20 a month so if any more problems appear then hopefully shouldn't cost a lot apart from the excess.

Renault Laguna II Dynamique Techno 1.9DCI - Cost = Arm + Leg

My 2003 Laguna came up for a 72k service last month

Cost was £900 from Wilsons of Epsom or £660 from Allams of Dorking so I went to an independent garage and it cost me £580 all in. This included a Full service plus timing and fan belt kit change together with water pump which was not faulty but was recommended to be changed with timing belt.
At the same time the rear suspension bushes lead to a fail on the MOT.
I replaced the rear bushes myself using a kit bought from ebay. total cost £95.00 and two and a half hours work.

This morning my battery went flat - car not starting. A new battery will now be required as the old one was new with the car - so lasted 6 years - not bad I suppose.

The stereo CD player is now also faulty so I tend not to use it - I am reluctant to spend more money on a car which just seems to keep breaking and costing me buckets of cash.

Previously the intercooler burst and the stereo display panel died (£350 + £380 to repair) also the alloy wheels keep buckling as they are unable to cope with the British (pot holed) roads.

Now the Hazard warning lights will not switch off after I needed to turn them on at the weekend also. I had to jam the switch down with a peice of paper to stop them flashing!.

I was informed by the MOT tester on an advisory the read disks need relacing soon.

Over the last few weeks this car has cost me over £1000.

I intend to sell this car ASAP or I will go bankrupt!!!

Well seeing as how I haven't really had the Renault for long, I submitted the answer for how much I've spent on my Honda in the last year - well over £4k  Just spent about £1600 on suspension alone in Febuary / March time

The Renault, I'm looking to spend in the region of £1 - 2k for the audio build and then alloys, 'bag it and probably end up doing more too :p

Laguna 1.8 16V Privalege Sport Tourer

lets see, i gave up with the old one, and went for retail therapy c/o ebay:crazy:

2200 for the car
1100 for the LPG conversion
450 for the insurants, damn them ants must be gold plated or something.....:d
just replaced all the back suspension
200 for MAD progressive heavy duty rear springs
110 for x2 gas shocks
30 or so for x2 rear bushes
90 odd fitting bill
100 to get the silverstone toffy wheels knocked back into a circular sort of shape.

got the bill next for £250 odd for new front shocks, top mounts, springs, anti-roll bar linkages, track rod arms and ends. and another fitting bill with the brakes to be blead on the front to clear the gunk inthe fluid.

next after that is the stainless steel exhaust(350) and maybe the discs and clutch in the next year

though it shouldnt go wrong or break for a couple of years or so..........

at least it only costs me 44p/L to refuel :d:d:d:d:d (having a NHS/local.gov jobby will soon fleece hm.gov out of enough business milage to recoup the conversion costs)

now all i need is a new well paying job to get this new set of wheels to make its money back.....

suffered a broken spring front near side that also blew out the trye, tyre was only about 9 months old so that was a blow, had both springs on front replaced, whilst fitting the new tyre the moron tyre fitter broke the valve, price for new valve fitted and reprogrammed would have been £99 at renault dealers, instead i had the trye sensors turned off, cost £35...no further issues with tyre pressures showing as low when cold etc.

mot due in feb, failed on n/s driveshaft boot.

april had timing belt and accessory belts changed

so far

£288 december 29th
£35 + £7 for the curtousy car insurance
£102 february for the mot
£ 402 april for timing belts and brake fluid / coolant flushed & refilled
£ 75 for nearside electric window assembly repair

about £900 total,

for a car that is approaching 8 years old i hope to god that is all i have to spend this year,

still have a problem with power but it is driveable so that will wait.

Only spent about 300 so far, when bought the car i realised it needed 2 new ball joints but had to replace too as boots dont knock off the clio lol, then had to buy 2 new tires and bought new timing belt to be on safe side, then rest is for new interior bits, new speakers and general modification, also bought stuff due to a patch of rust which im gonna repair,

not bad as car was only bought for 350 with 6 months mot and 9 months tax.

Spent another 900 Euro's to my scenic II

Last week I've spent another 900 euros to my scenic. this time the airco compressor got blocked. Airco was inspected by the renault dealer a month ago before i left on vacation.
The only check they seem to do is measurement of the air temperature and the pressure on the system.
The Renault dealer offered me a new and an exchange airco (1400 Euro or 1100 Euro's) went to an independent airco specialist and now i have a new renault compressor for 900 euro

They don't see me again at renault!!!

Judging from the poll results to date are we to believe that Renaults are expensive vehicles to repair, or is it just that the parts are expensive?

Anyway I've had my current Espace for coming upto 1 year.

February - £210.00
2 x Front tyres

April - £949.50
New radiator and associated components. Plus new bonnet release catches and new cable. Work carried out at Renault dealers.

July - £203.00
New discs and pads all round. New front wiper blades.

MOT due in 3 weeks. The front tyres and brake components were advisory on last MOT.

All in all not bad for a car that has covered only 3500 miles in the past 12 months since I bought it.

Filler, lacquer & Grey spray - £20-30

Put it in for 60k service with a noise that sounded like a pulley bearing going dry.

Anyway, it's the autobox @ £4100! Renault dealers only fit new boxes. Got a price of £1800 to recon it which I can live with as the warranty from Arnold Clark has a limit of 2k & Renault dealer has got authorisation for me to go ahead.

Needs to be done quick as driving to Venice in 2 weeks!

This year general maintenance / repairs -

Feb 09 £225 to get it through MOT

August 09 £26.10 for oil change last week

August 09 £92 for bearing and hub change - just back from dropping it off at the garage.

Replaced all the wipers once or twice so add about another £20

Grand total so far - £363.10

Bit I wanted for the car -i.e seat covers, wheel trims, new plates about £100

So all in all that's around a total sum of about £457.10. only just over a tenner short of what I paid for the car almost a year ago!. She is 13 years old though with near to 53K on clock (I've done almost 10K of that in almost 12 months). The old girl is due some TLC.

This would be better titled, "how much have you had to spend on repairs (through mechanical or electrical failure)", rather than the things you would expect to have to pay out for simply with wear and tear and servicing of any car, would be more accurate that way.

#272 ·
I've spent nothing on mine which I had from new 2 years in 12 months time....

Although I did buy some of that Rain-X windscreen stuff which is brilliant if you can get up to about 60 + MPH, no wipers required at 60 + even the spray from waggons shoots off over the roof.

Since buying new (and looking for every bit of wood in the place), my car has done 115,000 miles (clio diesel). In this time, other than the standard services, cambelts etc, it has had one set of front brake pads and a rear wheel bearing. An alternator and ERG valve was done under warrenty. Tyres every 35000 miles regardless of make (usually Toyo, Pirelli or Michelin). Can't say that's bad. Think front suspension bushes will be next, about due.
All my other Renault's donlt seem to need bits, certainaly none off the shelf.

I have spent a fiver on two used temp senders and 1 pound 99p on a pack of bulbs inc headlamp at a super cheap shop here. It is due for a clutch and a cam belt sometime but at 400 notes bought, it would be barmy, plus what would I get for it a baloon or a windmill?
I will not be one of the high spenders.
