Not me but someone I used to know who once worked at a Mercedes dealership.

They had one car come in that had just mysteriously stopped. The owner was clueless as to why.

The fault was soon diagnosed as shredded timing belt resulting from mechanical interference. It seems that the guy was in the habit of hiding his fetish gear from his wife by stashing it under the bonnet of the car. The timing belt cover looked like the perfect place to hide his handcuffs.

I have to say I took it with a pinch of salt myself, but it's still a good story.

I used to do a lot of trips all over the continent a while ago and never new how much room I would need for items so I always carried a stripped down roof luggage rack in the engine compartment of my 3 litre Granada.

A problem well stated is a problem half solved !

bones and fries.

and on at least 2 occasions, sound-deadening material from somehwere in the engine bay made into a nest-type thing on top of the engine!

My car has an undertray, so I put the glue type rodent catcher thingy under there... the trap disappeared as did the rodents never to return
