Hi there

Thanks for the suggestions. We had already tried the seal replacement and cleaning idea but still leaks when full. Sounds like the same problem tho. It looks like I shall be buying a new tank then otherwise this car is brilliant and was a bargain when I got it, just a tiny little problem

I had this problem - tank leaking at fuel sender unit.

I visited the Renault Main Dealers, following smell of petrol in the car a faulty fuel tank sender unit seal was diagnosed, I paid for replacement of the fuel tank sender unit and associated sealing ring (circa £40), then when the petrol leak returned I took the car back. They said they could not fix the problem without changing the tank at my cost and I simply stated that there must therefore either be a inherent design fault in the car and thus in breach of the sales of goods act, or they had failed to follow Renaults instructions and therefore they (the garage) were liable. I suggested they ring Renault to get them to pay for it, which they (Renault UK) did.

I have unearthed the old "Warranty Invoice" for the work. Renault UK paid for the accelerator recall under code "G 3153 - GO Remove Accelerator Cable" and the Fuel tank is shown under code "G 1157 GO Remove Refit Fuel Tank". I assume these codes are internal Renault servicing codes - but I could be wrong.

If your car has not had the accelerator cable recall done then you could always ring the local Renault garage and get the accelerator cable done and at the same time ask them to ensure that any "GO" or G code work, or any other RENAULT UK required work is carried out at the same time and they issue a letter to that effect as you wish to trade the car in against a new CLIO next month (of course you don't but they are not to know that are they!) - you may get it back with a new tank fitted! Of course the G or GO code may just have been my own dealers codes - but I suspect not.
