It'll have IDE on one of the front door mouldings.

It's a direct injection petrol engine which wasn't made for very long.It has been known to give problems, and was replaced by a more conventional 2 litre 16 valve engine (with VVC I believe).

I've just bought a 1.9dci 51 plate S/T.

I've read all the write up's on unreliable and build quality etc but from coming from previously owning a Landie I was used to both. So far, a few little things that are common faults but thats it. It has been very reliable, going back and forth Swansea, Bristol and Hereford and never once gave me any reasons for concern.

I'd say go for it, as a new owner myself you won't go far wrong and don't beleive all the above hype, every make of car on the road there is a good one and a bad one and a good owner will not tell as many people about their experiances as a bad owner will so take it all with a pinch of salt
