I would highly recommend Ren O Man, Toft Green York. No website but phone 01904 656700.

Took my Clio there when I thought the coils had gone, and on the phone he said "get it here asap, don't keep driving it." Got it down there and within the hour he phoned me to say they had cleared some faults with the diag, and had replaced the spark plugs! Turned out Nationwide Autocentre of York don't seem to bother changing them at services!!!

Its solely MOT and repairs, and is literally a backstreet garage, but it is a small family run concern with excellent service. Yes, the bonnet had two greasy finger marks, but it was kept securely overnight, and where else can you have a morning conversation about your Clio with the owner, his wife and his mechanic son?! Total cost for run on diag, fault clearing and new plugs - 75. Also listed minor faults and upcoming repairs, e.g. cambelt date etc. Very good.

they have all the diagnostic kit, and this father and son team are first rate.
they have never failed me. great value for money and the body work/spraying etc is second to none as well

Smile Garages! - The Best and the Worst

Hi all!
After the issues I have had with my Megane since i have bought it i thought i would start this thread.
This is to let other users know about top garages in the area.
But also to let people know where to stay away from as well!

My Recommendation:
Riverside IRS (Independent Renault Service)
Unit 5,
106 Richardson Street,

Telephone: 0161 429 8331

Web: Independent Renault Garage Repairs Specialists Servicing Stockport and Manchester

I have got to say, this must be the best garage i have ever dealt with in my life!
I don't know where to start, they are just the best, from Leanne on reception being really friendly and helpful to Stephen, Mark and Andy out in the garage who showed me all the problems with my car and were happy to spend time explaining things to me!
There labour rate is excellent! I could go on and on! lol

When my car went in they were more than happy to let us have a courtesy car.
I believe they have a Clio, Laguna and an Espace. We opted for the Espace (nearly top of the range!) OK it is on a H reg (18 years old i think) but the spec on it is amazing! i didn't think they had invented electric windows n power steering then!! It is really comfy as well!

I thank them for putting up with my pestering! and my daily check calls! lol

I could go on forever but you are probably thinking now that i work for them!! (i dont BTW)! Mint garage! I wont go anywhere else now!! Thanks Guys!

Now my time to Name and Shame:

Worst garage i have EVER been to. To start with, i don't know where they get there labour rate from!! After VAT it works out close to 100 an hour!!!!!!!
I had some work done on my car there, the work was shoddy, they broke my car in other areas. They denied all responsibility!
When i got the car back, the problem that it went in with had not been fixed.
They charge you 80 just for a quote on a repair!
I did try to take them to trading standards over the workmanship that was carried out on my car, but as i had no proof that the car was not damaged before it went in i didn't have a leg to stand on.

Customer service is rubbish and they moan if you call to check how things are going.
Also if you require a courtesy car, the waiting list is over 6 weeks.
Which is no good when you car is off the road!!

I got the RAC to take my car there one Sunday when it broke down, only the sales team were in, so i gave my key to the sales manager who told me that i "might as well just buy a new car" and started the whole sales thing on me!

Hope this is OK for people and is within the forum rules, sorry selwonk if it isn't!

I thought this may be helpful to our North West Members!

Hi Chris

Thanks for your helpful post - maybe it needs to be merged with the dealer recommendations one already started sometime back Keeps it all in one place for members to search through.

Also, we're not allowed to name and shame (as much as we'd like to!) so i hope you don't mind but i had to take out the garage info there.

Unfortunately I can't merge this post with dealer recommendations as thats not within my region - hopefully a helpful mod will come along to help this damsel in distress
