Scenic III reliability?

I'm in the process of buying a new (used) car. I currently have a 2005 Renault Scenic II, and to be honest it has not always been so kind to me. Failing sensors, failing dashboard display, failing windows, failing window wipers etc. Generally speaking it's mostly electrics that have been the problem.

I wonder if they (Renault) have improved on the reliability. Have they? I'm eyeing the Grand Scenic III for a little bit of more load capacity. There doesn't seem to be much statistics out there yet for the Mk III Scenics, so I'm really fishing for rumors and personal experiences here (dangerous, I know).

Re: Scenic III reliability?

Do you know, although I'm no longer driving a Renault take it from me, I've owned plenty of them in the past & have never had a reliability issue with any of the electronics.

I'll swear to Gawd, a lot of folks, either prior owners, or present owners must create a lot of these problems for themselves.

Right or wrong
Just my 2p worth.

Re: Scenic III reliability?

I have had 4 Scenics since 1998 and all have been ok apart from slight problems with my 2003 Mk11 namely coils and draining battery but nothing major my 2008 Dynamique had no probs at all but the best one is the one I have now a 2010 Mk111 Dynamique Tomtom 1.9Dci had it 5 years and still drives like new, a great car so if you want a recommend then this is it.
Of course you will find owners who who wont recommend them but I think you will find this with every brand of car just look at the various forums and you will see owners of various makes complaining about their cars so its not just Renaults.

If you decide to buy a Scenic just make sure it has been fully serviced and a full history.

Friends call me Sirrah!! BUT some Friends say get- Stuffed!!

Re: Scenic III reliability?

I had a Scenic II 1.6 for 3 years, and I have to say it was the worst car i have ever owned, problems with EPB, dephaser, battery drain, A/C Compressor and towards the end it sounded like the engine was going to fall apart. It really felt like everything that could go wrong did.

A year ago i replaced it with an 11 plate Scenic 3 1.5 which i am more than happy with. It is a vast improvement to my old scenic in just about every way! The only thing i can say about it that is negative is that i wish it had a little bit more power.

As was said before a FSH is recommended, I was also told when i bought mine that the service intervals recommended in the book were not reliable and the car should be serviced annually.

Re: Scenic III reliability?

Wow, that's daring... to buy a new Scenic after having such a bad experience with your previous one. What made you decide for a new Scenic? Did you read or hear that they were much improved over the Scenic II?
