is it time to sell the kids?

Hello all,

Question for anyone who may be able to help. I have a renault megane 1.4 16 coupe and was going down the m62 doing about 80 (hard to beleive thats possible on m62) and the timing belt went!!!! AA came out and towed me home and said that I may have bent some valves as well.

Basically the cars being sitting outside for two months now and i want to get it fixed, where do I start? Do i get it repaired at a garage (brother in laws a mechanic) and pay out for parts and labour etc or should I have a look around on ebay and see if I can get a new engine and just replace engine with help from brother in law???

Cheapest bet would be best really, any suggestions anyone please, its really appreciated as in this cold weather I am using the car as a smoking room and its starting to smell.

is your bro in law is a mechanic i say jus whip the head of and replace the valves and cambelt etc. probly cost just as much as a replacement engine from ebay etc but you would have peace of mind as an engine off ebay may cure the problem you have but incur further problems in the short or long run. you never know the real story behind a donor engine whereas you do with your present 1
