Go for a Megane. I always say that it's better knowing a car that has problems and how to fix them instead of getting something new and pray to god that nothing goes wrong with it.

The Vauxhall (GM) engine is the 8v engine, the Isuzu is the 16v engine. The easiest way to tell the difference is look at the Rocker Cover. the 8v (GM) is a SOHC Single OverHead Cam, where as the Isuzu 16v is a DOHC Double OverHead Cam (basically twice as big as the 8v cover).

the easiest way to tell is all gm turbo diesels had the turbo at the back of the engine, all isuzu turbo diesels had the turbo on the front of the engine

gm x17dtl mk3 1995my to 1998my
gm x17dtl mk4 1998my to 2000my upto w reg
isuzu 1.7td mk3 1992 to 1998
isuzu 1.7td(y17dt) 2000my (w reg) onwards to approx 2004
isuzu 1.7td(z17dtl) 2004my onwards

dont seam to be anything on the CC mate.

Cheers Tigz - I knew about the differences on the rocker cover thing. Didn't know about the turbo thing though, cheers for that. I would guess the cc's are the same if GM have just copied the Isuzu lump (badly!)
