Edit: Forgot to add (though I'm sure I've mentioned it before.) The last time I had a side light bulb blow on the Laguna, I had to visit three separate petrol stations before I found a replacement. (the side lights are doubled-up on both sides, so as far as I'm aware, the car was still legal.)

I usually buy a bulb kit when I get a new car, but I begrudge paying for a halogen headlamp bulb that I know I'm never going to use.

I carry spare bulbs - I was under the impression that if you change a blown bulb there-and-then because it must have gone during your present journey, then you could not be prosecuted or fined. WIth modern designs that require you to half-dismantle the car though, I dread to think what could happen .....

Surely the construction and use regulations should make it clear that any bulb should be capable of being changed at the roadside by a "competent" person ?

Likewise I also carry spare bulbs, warning triangle etc. I always try to check my bulbs in the evening. Because I'm usually parallel parked with cars in front and behind I put the lights on & look for the relections, likewise with the brake lights.

However there is a large amount of cars around here, police included, who drive with one or more brake and headlamps not working. Our local police also seem to have a problem with their indicators as they always seem to change lane without using them.

thaks for your views as i am a hgv driver the mirrors are approx 10+5" on dark unlit roads the only way to avoid the glare is to lean forward .as with all new trucks the seat belts are red so the police can see if you are wearing one or not .so as you lean forward the belt tightens not a good position to be in if you have to brake in an emergency

if anyone dazzles me whilst driving my 7.5 tonner i wait till they are getting close, apply exhaust brake and keep accelerator to the floor...and wait till they are just behind me and release the exhaust brake...instant fog bank...not very pc but still gives me great satisfaction. ;>)
