Renault Clio - Windscreen MOT Fail?

Have a scratch on my windscreen from the wiperblade (in a big arc right across the top) tried removing it with these scratch kits to no avail. Anyone have any idea if this is an MOT fail. There is no chip or crack just a bloody great scratch mark but it is deep enough for it not to come out. Also would a windscreen specialist be able to remove it?

There are specific rules on windscreen damage so it really depends exactly where it is, how bad it is, and how the MOT tester declares it.

Try going to an MOT centre which will do a free re-test and see if it fails (or even ask them to have a quick look before MOT time). If it fails then "have the misfortune of being hit by a stone chip" and have the screen replaced under your insurance. Usually it's 50 or so excess and no loss to no claims bonus.

Without seeing it it's difficult to tell if it is a failure or not,but if it is deemed bad enough for your view to be effected then it will fail.If it's a thin scratch then that won't fail,if it's a thick scratch that renders that part of the screed opaque then it will fail.It has to be deemed as excessive to fail.

If it does need replacing then I'd check your insurance and see if you have windscreen cover,if not then get a price for a screen supplied and fitted and go from there. There are proffessional kits available for scratch removal, but to be honest it would probably be cheaper for you to have a replacement screen. The scratch removal system I used to use would have taken hours of use to remove a scratch like the one you are describing, and even if you could remove you would probably find that the view was distorted through the area where the scratch was after making that part of the screen thinner.
