Hello all, Laguna 1 Pre Purchase advice

Morning all!

Been looking around for a month now for a change of car, something good for 2 kids and a baby in the back, and the only car that seems to suit the bill for space is the Laguna.

So I'm looking at a Laguna 1 - 1.6 16valve.

Anything to look at these? I've seen quite a few with fairly high mileage, so I'd assume that they take the miles pretty well? Every single one I've seen seems to be in immaculate condition - even those with 160k on the clock have interiors that look as good as new.

From what I've drive, the 1.6 16v seems almost as fast as any of the slightly larger engines, quite a smooth unit, a little vocal when opened up though.

A very Good morning to yah.

I had a Lag 1 mine was the 2.2 RTDT I think had in 97 or early 98

I PX it in Oct 2005 the only issue that immediately springs to my mind is the fuel tank straps.

They all had a problem with them going rotten, even on an immaculate looking car.

No biggy to replace though, not even to those who feel its beyond them to dabble with the tools, the job is easy, and I do mean easy, even to a spanner fool.

Make sure that you support the fuel tank, better still wait until its almost empty, but still support it.

It's been some years ago that I did these straps I got them from Renault @ about 15 ish per time.

Hi These Lagunas seem to take the mileage well. Get the timing belt, water pump and the idler pulleys replaced.Check the Exhaust manifold is not blowing-not cheap and a real pain to do!!.Apart from the usual wear and tear items a nice car.Good luck in finding one
