renault main dealer broke my car

on wednesday last week my wife went to put down the drivers electric window on our 2001 laguna 2 but it only went down about a inch then stopped and would not move so after a bit of fiddeling withe the button managed to get it to go back up. called renault at 9 oclock on thursday morning and the chap said it was probably the regulator and it would be 280 fitted with no other option had to book it in for saturday morning this is where the trouble started.

saturday 8:30 arrive at main dealer with passenger window down slightly for some fresh air (drivers one not working) put window up and lock car using keycard check doors are locked (force of habit) and enter showroom.

8:35 speak to man at service desk was informed my car was not booked in i explained i had phoned on thursday and he booked me in , he then asked me "what time would you like to collect your car" this was greeted with a confused look by myself ant in my best sarcastic tone of voice " when its fixed " gave him my mobile numberand keycard and went on my merry way.

10:45 with no call from renault decided to pop in and see what was happening ,i approach the desk to be greeted with " we tried to call you but couldn't get through " i thought this to be strange as if i was out of coverage range it would go straight on to voice mail he then came out with it "NONE OF YOUR WINDOWS ARE WORKING" this threw me a bit i said "the where when i came in as i was using the passenger one as i drove in " he came back with the classic"IM AFRAID YOU MUST BE MISTAKEN SIR THEY DONT WORK" he then goes on to feed me the line e didnt want to strip it down as it would not be ready by the end of day and i would have to book it back in.

11:00 none to pleased i get the keyfob and go out and get in the car wich was now parked at the opposite end of the car park i insert the keycard and press the button the car starts but there is a double click noise from behind me have a look around cant see anything obvious i asume it was mabye the back wiper and off i set i nip down to a mates and get him to check the fuses (just incase the one for the windows has gone) its fine

11:20 jump back into car after chatting to mate at the roadside insert keycard and press start the car roars into life and i get the two clicks behind me(starting to get annoying now) after a bit of investagation found out it was the childlocks on the back doors engaging even though the button on the drivers door says they are turned off.(back to renault)

12:00 arrive at renault the wife stays in the car so no need to lock it goes in and approaches service desk (same chap) i say "i want to see the manager" and was geeted back with "your windows werent working when you brought the car in" im totally confused now i say "i didnt ask you about the windows i asked to speak to the manager" this other chap pips up im the manager i ask him to come out and see the car he agrees something is not right and to bring the car in first thing on monday and he will get it on the computer and find out whats wrong i reluctantly agree and ask him his name (stuart) for refrence and off i go.

1:00 stop at tesco get out lock doors with keycard and do my usuall check and sind the drivers door is not locking with the central locking so get mobile out and call renauld an ask reception to be put through to stuart the manager the girl comes back with "stuarts not a manager" im well ****ed off jump in car and back to renault

1:30 arrive at renault demand to speak to the head man and im ushered into his office away from the customers in the show room i tell him my story an ask him what can be done as i have a car that will not lock he offers to take the car in and keep it locked in the serice bay till monday i inquire about a courtesy car to be told they dont do them but he will hire me a car similar size for 153 till monday i think feck that come out and look at the car ,we go out of the showroom and by this time the wife is sitting in the car in tears as im walking with him towards my car whats sitting next to my car but a renault clio with big 10 inch letters across the side the name and adress of the garage and the words courtesy car. i point to this and say i thought you didn't do courtesy cars his reply was "we dont" i could not believe my ears i tell him im not pleased (he didnt look too concerned but said i could leave the car if i wished or bring it back on monday i told him i would take the car away as i did not trust the garage to keep it safe after there attitude up to then.

sorry for the long winded post

what i want to know does anyone have any ideas about what is wrong and rough costs.

thank in advance.

went to renault this morning at 8am as was arranged by them with the promise of taking the car straight in walks up to the customer service desk says goodmorning and gives them my name the chap then walks over to the bookings board and comes back and says "IM SORRY SIR YOUR NOT BOOKED IN AND WE ARE FULLY BOOKED TODAY" at this stage i was on the verge of loosing it completely i told the chap to get the manager out ,the manager comes out and ok's it for my car to be taken in .

the chap then asks what the fault is as i try to explain the chinless wonder next to him butts in with "the windows did not work when he brought it in" after a few choice words aimed in his direction he gets up and storms into the managers office and the chap dealing with me proceeds to book me in meanwhile the chinless wonder comes back out the managers office with a face like a smacked **** and sits sulking at his computer.

9:15 the young chap comes out and shouts me over and says we found the fault it was a wire disconected from the electric window switch on the drivers door he says we dont know how this came to be unplugged but it seems to have effected everything on the door panel this being a multi switch which incorporates the switch for the rear child locks.i say to him at the top of my voice "and renault didn't touch anything" he then refers to the regulator not working in the drivers door and says we have a part in stock and as the door card is off do i still wantthe work done i say how long will it take he says about 40 minutes i said go ahead.

10:15 i approach the service desk and ask is this going to be much longer the chap nips through and comes back and says another 15 minutes as they are just checking everthing is working.

10:50 i approach the service desk and as in my calmest polite voice" wheres my fecking car" he says i'll just check and disapeer through the back and says thats it done for you would you like us to give it a quick wash and hoover for you i tell them where to put there sponge and hoover and say just give me the bill

the total bill was for 310.48 pence the must have charged me rent for the time i spent in there showroom over the weekend i'll definatly not be using a main dealer in future unless absaloutly nessesary.

Sounds like a strongly worded letter to Renault customer services is required!

And you want a full cost reimbersment.
They might offer 50% but hold out for as much as you can get.
Good luck
