He's been (gently) penalised because the motoring public were p****d that he got off initially. Frankly, it's all overblown - you can do greater speeds on parts of the Autobahn in Germany and, indeed, in some mid-west states of the US there's no limit at all on out of town roads. The issue is to do with inappropriate driving and I guess 60+ in a 30 limit is a tad too high. I'd rather they eased up on the rest of us mortals than use this guy as an albeit deserving scapegoat.

My other cars are less unusual!

<"Pat Sullivan, prosecuting, admitted there had been some dispute over the speeds the camera had recorded but said it was accepted they were "broadly" accurate.>"

Pardon ?

So the defence (i.e. the Police) claimed that the speed shown on the camera was inaccurate - They claim the exact opposite when Joe Public is losing his licence !

I feel a little sorry for all you younger drivers!

I had a drive from Watford to Oban (West coast of Scotland) many years ago, before speed cameras. All I had to do was watch out for patrol cars. I was in a 3 litre Ford Granada (not mine) and I tried 3 times to do 100 miles in 1 hour whilst on the M1 and M6 fastest average I got was 97mph! I was cruising at 105-110.

Also it was a lot quieter then on the motorways. It took me 2 hours and twenty minutes from Watford to Preston.
