Lol, don't get that in the Mk1 meggie - very soft and gentle. Only pain is the exhaust keeps hanging down in the middle and you hear it scraping over the hump...

I had a 99 Phase 1 Megane, 1.6e engine that ate headgaskets (and eventually the head itself) for breakfast. I may have had a "Friday afternoon" car though...

Apart from that - lovely comfy cars they are, and recommended Mine was written off after a car park shunt, though thew damage wasn't bad I took the money and ran - the s came in handy for carpeting my new house, with enough spare for abother car. Seems a decent price, I spent 100 less for a 94 Cavalier recently

Good luck with it

EDIT - mine always caught speed bumps, and steep milti-storey car park ramps on the exhaust too. Must be a design quirk!

The Vauxhall Cavalier - one of the safest cars you'll bump into

i dont get the exaust scraping on the local speed bumps, despite having the firmer suspension (still rolls a bit for my liking), unless ive got 4 people in the car

Reading this thread, I must be the unluckiest meg owner the world has ever seen. In 10 months ownership I have had to change the ECU , Head gasket, catalytic converter, exhaust rubbers, both driveshafts, front tyres, front brake pads, one rear wheel bearing, rear brake shoes, one coil pack, and just to be on the safe side, the cambelt. Whe I got it the car had done 97,000 miles, I have only managed to do another 1400 as the rest of the time it's been off the road. The damned thing still occasionally decides to misfire or nor start. I have to say I would not buy another Renault even for the pleasure of using this wonderful forum.
