After-market warranty?

Ok, I've had a couple of mentions of this here on the forums since I became a member.

To be honest, before I joined here I never knew that there was such a product in existence.

I was wondering if those that have mentioned them in random threads around the forum would be kind enough to post up links to them on this thread?

The reason I ask is because today, on an Irish forum that I am a member of, I asked about such offerings from Irish providers and I basically got a lot of 'what the fook are you looking for one of those for?', and 'buy a bloody decent second-hand car, like a BMW , and you won't need it'. 'Those are a load of sh!te, you still have to pay for regular servicing!' <<<Well, DUH!

The ignorance is appaling.

In the end I got one link, and I have to wait until tomorrow to find out if they even provide the service I want.

I am curious, for two reasons:

1 - to see if any of the UK providers will provide a warranty to an Irish resident. The car I will buy will likely be a Vel Satis, 3.0 V6 DCi auto. It is looking more and more likely that I will have to purchase this from the UK. I don't know if I could chance a Vel without some form of cover. My mechanic, despite never having worked on one, is falling over himself trying to get me to buy a Superb, Accord, 5, 607, Passat, Mazda 6 or somesuch junk. Although I will admit, that I would strongly consider an Accord.

2 - I want to see just how backward Ireland is in its insurance and financial services offerings.

Perhaps, aside from all my *****ing, this could be made a sticky/reference for all the known/reputable suppliers of such warranties?

Have you tried contacting any of the motoring organsiations - I think they should be able to advise. Also many used car sellers use an insurance type warranty - it may also be worth having a word with some of them

Hi there.
Try these links

Try going on to "Ask" or any preffered search engine and just type in "vehicle warranty"

The warranty I've got on my car is with Motorcare warranties. They are pretty good, but do demand that your car is serviced within the manufacturers guidelines. I dont need to take it to a main dealer or anything, just make sure its serviced every 18,000 miles at a VAT registered garage.

So far in the year and a half (purchased a 2 year warranty with the car) of owner ship they've shelled out for :-

1. Steering wheel airbag coupler
2. Front Broken coil spring
3. Air con compressor (only paid 40% of claim limit though )

And I've a feeling they will have another claim soon !

Boy am I glad I got the warranty when I got the car, its paid for itself already.

That's great, guys, thanks.

I heard back from the potential provider here in Ireland and the news is bad. I was basically told that the type of insurance I was looking for was open to abuse and a really bad idea, and ultimately too complex. These insurance types think that us Irish are nothing but chancers. When I explained that this cover is freely available in the UK, that put a stop to his white horse of truth pretty quickly.

They do, however, underwrite extended warranties to several manufacturers for their used cars.

Guess who they are running a promo with right now? Renault! 2 years cover is available on a secondhand purchase from a main Renault dealer [Diamond cover].

I suppose it is better than nothing, but I am still going to contact those UK providers and see if I can come to an arrangement with them, as it is likely that I will buy the car there. [I've been told that no diesel autos were sold in Ireland]
