When you say pedal hard it makes me think Servo ..then spongy I think air in system ..definitely need checked

Does it pull slightly to one side at all under brakeing

Pedal will be soft until pads have bedded in. Last time I had new pads and discs (on the old Ford) took two weeks to bed in and the pedal go hard.

Also are handbrake self adjusters working properly?

EDIT: doubt very much that is causing service light on, separate issue. get it read for error codes?
