I will NEVER buy Renault again

Please someone tell me that all Renaults aren't as poorly built and unreliable as my 3 year old Scenic II.

I bought it from new, and it's had almost 25 visits back to the dealers to have various things fixed. They include:

Rattling windows
Tailgate struts left loose
Airbag system fault (5 trips to dealer to sort this one!)
Automatic headlights coming on in bright sunshine
Sleepsafe headrest clip broke
retractable load cover plastic lug broke off - all replaced
faulty electric wing mirror switch
handsfree locking sensors not working
12v socket on dashboard came loose
steering stop replaced due to clunking on full lock
Renault's tow bar below EU standard height - replaced
dipstick cover broke off - replaced
all glow plugs replaced
front discs & pads replaced - excessive wear
parking brake bound on - rear discs & pads replaced again!
air con & all ventilation not working (just happened)

I have 3 weeks of my 3 year warranty left and I'm dreading the cost of keeping this car on the road. Are they all like this???
Currently in Andy R's garage:
2005 Renault Scenic II 1.9dCi Privilege - not for much longer though!

You just have a bad luck - you had more works on it than some people had in 10 years.

Hi Andy, you certainly seem to have had your fair share of bad luck with this one. I would say that your experience is not typical of most Renault owners, otherwise I doubt if they would still be in business!

However, some of your 'bad luck' is certainly not exclusive to Renault owners. Rattles from dash and trim are commonplace in a lot of modern cars. My Passat rattles like a . I know I can take it in to get sorted under warranty and I really should! I personally think that it is due to all the 'carbon fibre-ish' and 'faux-aluminium / wood' inserts that seem to adorn the dashboards of today. The more 'bits' you put on, the more there is to rattle. My 1990 Cavalier had a very simple dash with only a small splattering of 'wood-like' bits and never made a noise.

Also you mention that the front discs and pads were replaced due to excessive wear. Did Renault agree and do the work under warranty? What was the mileage? Our Scenic had pads all round and front discs at 36k. My last Passat had the same at 40k. One of my guys has just had the same on his Passat...wait for it....42k. I suspect that it is just that manufacturers are developing brakes with better braking efficiency, at the cost of shorter life (softer materials). Interestingly though, my Passat has 45k and still plenty of wear left

Have you asked Renault for a quote to extend the warranty? It will probably be quite reasonable and will give you that extra piece of mind.

Good luck with it mate!

Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow...

Wanna see what I drive? No pics of the latest Passat, but you can see the Scenic II here and the CB1000R here!

Previous Passat here and Bandit here.

Agreed.....either extend the warranty of get rid.

You obviously have a 'problem' car and I personally wouldn't want to keep it beyond the warranty running out.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
