New scenic, anything I should check?

Well I finally did it i've bought a 2007 1.6 scenic. Documented 35k miles! Lots of service history, it's like a new car!! Drives lovely.

The cambelt was done at 21K ( November 2011 ) so the present belt has been on 14K miles/4yrs 3 months so I presume that will need doing in the next 6 months?

The battery a genuine Renault one and there is no record in the service history of a new one so it may be the original so maybe that should just be changed for peace of mind.

Everything works on the car, the only problem I have with it is wind noise from the big sunroof so I'll investigate that when I get a moment.

Is there any preventative maintenance I can do on the known weaknesses of the mk2's eg. hand brake, window mechanisms etc.

Yes the cambelt will need doing in another 6 months or so. Its wise to do water pump and all idler pulleys at same time.

changing the battery would be a good idea as its now 9 years old so has done well already. Dont forget to make sure that you have the radio code before doing it though.

Scuttle drains.
a search will bring up plenty of advice

I'd change the oil as well, always do with a new motor unless I am really certain of the history

Sunroof: wind noise is probably a result of front panel glides wearing out.

I oncur, & a dose of spray grease on the runners wouldn't go amiss. Although Pan roofs are noisier than Mk1 when open on the "vent" 1st position. Try resetting it too. In "o" position press the button till it shuffles, that often helps.
Cold weather or not, run the aircon once a week to keep the seals lubricated.
WD40 all connectors & underbonnet pcb when battery is off AND FFS follow the correct sequence for battery removal / reconnection or you WILL get the dreaded EPB nag.
