Hi guys...

nice n simple one today...

Whats the average 0-60MPH time?

Just wondering cos my safrane does it in about 10 seconds... which sounds like a long time yet it seems to rip up the dual carriageways and leave everything else standing.

What is your take on this guys?

If you're the only person who knows there's a race on then you're quite likely to win :)

My Bentley Continental GT should get there in 4.7 seconds, but the bikes on the roof rack slow it down a bit.

My Lag is around 10 -11 secs I would imagine. I deffo know it aint that fast, my Mrs will sometimes tell me to do an overtaking manoeuvre to get past a slow driver, prob is the Lag can't deal with it...... or more to the point I don't feel confident overtaking in it cos it takes a dogs age to pick up speed. :(

My previous Mazda would do 0 - 60 in a little over 7.5 secs, 100 would be coming up in just 10 to 11, quarter mile approx 15 secs  . Loved the close ratio box on that! Only prob was on the motorways it would rev quite high, 80 was close to 5k rpm if I remember rightly.

Next I'll be getting a bike though, 125 to start so 0 - 60 will be approx half hour to an hour! couple of years and I'll be on the 600+ cc bikes, Then 0 - 60 will be fun

On Motorways you'd be more interesed in your 30 - 70 times. This is where the engines torque comes into play so all the dervs out there should have failry good times as apposed to petrol equivalents .

Proper 0-60 times as practised by car mag journos are quite damaging to the car, mostly the clutch, but tyres and gearbox also. The idea is to hold it at a steady 3k revs or something and drop the clutch. Then at peak power mash the box into second and third if necessary. Sometimes the wheelspin in first is enough to slow the time so much a quick change to second is beneficial. Having never driven an automatic I dunno the procedure there, but there are so many different types too ...

You should still be able to get within a second or two of the manufacturer time without driving too much like a loon, but unless you specificially bought a 'stang for this purpose I wouldn't do it too often.

Gunning it at 40 or 50 to scare the b'jesus out of a dawdler is much more satisfying imo :d
That and multi-car overtaking manouvers. The mad mile outside Hastings on the A21 is good for this, in both directions

Actually... its not.

I used to live right on the A21 many years ago. There were emergency services flying up and down it almost every night as there used to be at least 3 accidents a week.

It isn't a safe road. Trust me, I've seen and heard enough blues and twos down it over the years. Please be careful on that road. On the few rare occasions I drive alone it I get very nervous. I was on a bus once years ago on the A21.. lorry came the other way and smashed its wing mirror into the bus. The driver was a right state.

Back to the topic at hand...

I still don't see how my saff has a slower than average 0-60 time yet still seems to out power everything else on the road around here. How is this possible?

0-60 time only tells half the story, the gearing and power delivery mean much more in the real world.

I wouldn't say the Saff isn't particularly a quick car though, and you don't know how hard the other drivers around you are trying. The official 0-60 time of a car is set by nailing the car and getting the perfect traction, which not everyone is going to do every time.

Apparently my Delta is rated as 7.5 seconds 0-60,but it feels a hell of a lot faster than that, but then your holding on to the steering wheel with grim death trying to control the torque steer.

I would say anything under 7 seconds is a true 'quick car',but as I said it depends on the characteristics of the engine, gearbox and driver.:)

you havent come across a freind of mine then, whenever hes sober enough to drive, he hits the red line in every gear before changing up, and i dont think your saff will be able to keep up with a mini cooper s

well it would probably give his a run for money, hes $hagged the engine, and i think hes warped the head

i cant see how he survives on an oil rig for 2 weeks at a time

That reminds me of a friend of mine, he had an early RX7 which had a little bell that rang as you hit the red line. After a few months the ring became slower and lower cause that was his signal to change up. I don't think Mazda intended that bell to signal every gear change:d

'torque, torque, torque.

Lag, I bet your Delta makes you smile like a cat!'

If you drive it slowly it throws it's toys out of it's pram and plays up like a b1tch.......but if you drive it like any Italian would it is great, great fun.

I just wish they had fitted it with brakes!.

My Lag is supposed to do it in about 7.5 secs but I've beaten that by about a second...give or take a half for stopping the stopwatch at exactly the right time....so say 7......

.......which ain't half bad for a tank :d

I've not yet been beaten from the lights :loser: 's (them....not you)!

That'd be a good drag me thinks :d

I'll take you on Scatzy!.:d

My Delta is like the Aston Martin that James Bond drives.I'll leave an oil slick so you have no grip, and you won't be able to see me because of the cloud of blue smoke!.
Haha.......would be a good drag also if your motors in tip top....I might just add a supercharger to mine though....just to be sure

Speaking of AM's.....I erm....raced one on the way back from Wales when I picked the car up....a DB9 infact and I think the bloke was quite suprised when he looked in his rear view.....a ton twenty and I bottled it and away he went......dunno why he didn't just put his foot another millimetre down

Spot on Mike but there aren't many more original bits.

One of the bulbs has gone behind the odometer so I can only just make out the mileage. I had a quote from my local Renault Stealer and they wanted about £200.00 just to remove the dash and replace the bulb.

I think i'll shine a torch on instead as I haven't the faintest idea how to get the dash out of it.

Believe it or not the car will go to the south of France again this year as it has done every year since it was born. It is running superbly at the moment.

If it does break down at least i'm in the right country to get it fixed.:d
