It would be best to ask Ford as to whether your car has ABS - if you give them your VIN number I think they should be able to tell.

Whilst ABS may not have been fitted as standard it could have been fitted as an optional extra or such.

Just a thought - have you checked your tyre pressures and does the car stop in a straight line when braked hard. A lazy caliper or leaking wheel cylinder could also make the car swerve.

I've just read on a website that all focus 1.6's up until 2003 don't have ABS. could anyone say if this is true or not? Apparently they still have the wheel sensors fitted though? I could have bought a car under false advertisement here..whatever it gets called..
They were an optional extra for your year and model Stef, Most I have come across have had ABS fitted

Is there an ABS warning light on the dash that illuminates for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on,and if you follow the pipes from the brake master cylinder do they all go into a box with an electrical connector on it?.

If the answer is yes to either question, then you do have ABS.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....

It could have been patched straight after the surface was laid. A road near me has recently been re-surfaced, when they did it the left out any ironworks, like grids, man holes etc, then the filled them in around it afterwards. They could have done the same here.

hi all,
I have checked the car and it appears it does not have ABS. It stops perfectly in a straight line, doesn't pull to the side and doesn't fade.
thanks again
