Renault Clio II 1.4 auto - Good buy or not?

Hello all!

First time posting on the forum, hope I've got the right section. I'm thinking about buying a 2003 Clio Mk2 1.4 petrol with the auto gearbox.

I'm quite new to Renault in general, is there anything in particular to look out for on this model? Is the engine reliable? I'd mainly be driving around town, + A roads with the occasional longer trip.
A big thing that worries me, having done a bit of research already, is the auto gearbox failing. Is this a common fault? If yes can it be prevented?

Any opinions, positive or negative experience etc would be much appreciated. Cheers in advance!

What sort of mileage on the beast?

Personally I'd avoid auto boxes with smaller engines but personal choice.

At that mileage I wouldn't worry too much.
Timing belt changes (if it is a belt) and service history to look at.
