Yep I think you're right Horatio - Cavalier CD's didn't necessarily have a CD player as standard, I think that honour went to top of the range Diplomats for example Maybe it is just a Japanese quirk, and probably a bit of "urban myth" stuff too.

There are RN RL RT and RXE trim levels at least, and they seem to be current in the Clio and the Kangoo right now, you'll be pleased to know. RN has also been used for the Safrane, Laguna, 19 and probably others.
The RN seems to be the "lowest" (sorry).
I can't find what it stands for, though, so I'm going to make it up. It stands for Renault Normale. lol
