The check is a farce, they only do it to get extra jobs from gullible drivers.

They did one on mine, said I needed new discs and pads all round, I said I would do it myself, and found there was nothing wrong with the pads or discs so never did them.

I took it in again about 4 weeks later and they did the check again, I was told it needed 1 rear new disc and pads, I asked them how the other three had miraculously cured themselves, they went a bit quiet and started making excuses.

A problem well stated is a problem half solved !

I had the 25 point safety check on mine. They picked up on slight play in bottom ball joint (felt fine to me) and rear indicator bulbs that werent orange enough.

I let them change the bulbs, but not the ball joint. 6 months later I knew the ball joint had gone as the steering was all over the shop.... needless to say I didnt go back to the dealer to get it replaced.

I would want some compensation.

Should be a name on the 25 point check list carried out.

For two years our Vauxhall dealer has been saying all front suspension ball joints on my van require replacing... And over two MOTs there has been nothing whatsoever wrong found with the front suspension. Makes me think the dealers "vehicle condition check" is a load of old tripe

Well I went in this morning all ready to let them have it and the manager had a chat with me in the office, apologised unresevedly for the issues that had been missed and their repair failing. Said his tech had held his hands up and admitted he'd messed up and was sorry.

The best bit though is that they also knocked 70 off the price of replacing the pads and discs, they're tensioning the handbrake free of charge, discounted the new wiperblades and I'm getting a free retest.

I was shocked at their helpfulness to say the least, so I'm now not that miffed anymore, at least the car should be like new when its finally back home YAY!!!
