I bought my Lag II as I had the Lag 1 before and loved the looks of that, and the Lag II was its natural successor.

Plus its good to look at , a comfortable safe car with lots of room and a lovely dashboard layout thats not boring black in colour like most VW's / Vauxhalls these days.

Yeah my car has had its niggles, but then the N Reg Vectra I once had, had more problems than this.

Im overall VERY happy with me Lag II.

Well I certainly stirred up some mixed rseponses - but hey that's what it's all about. If more people got involved in discussion we'd all be a lot more aware of what's going on. Keep the comments coming it wsill be interesting to see what the concensus is.

Yes, keep 'em coming. Owning a good Disco II, and hearing abt all their problems, I know there can be two sides of the story. I am hoping not all Lagunas are v. expensive and troublesome.

I am about to buy what you guys call a Laguna II V6 Sport Tourer (and funnily enough, what here in the Aussie market is called an Estate) and there is nothing that comes near it for the blend of safety, economy, size and style. Renault imported about 320 Lag II Ph1 Estates (and about 1000 sedans) in 2002/2003.

We went in big for the 4WDs at that time so there are not many passenger car-based Euro wagons around in the used market. I like the laguna as it has ESP and side curtain airbags. Nothing else has this in the price range (which is around 4-5000GBP for an '02 here).

I hear lots abt coil failure, keycard probs, window mechanisms, premature wear of front susp balljoints and rear susp bushings... if that's about it, then I can live with that list of likely failures.

It's a bit of a risk buying one of these things over this side of the world. Renault is not esp popular in Australia partly because they were pretty expensive new (but resale kills 'em) and the high cost of spare parts (and as few are sold, there are not many used parts in breaking years or a heap of pattern parts suppliers) so I expect I'll be on eBay UK or France a bit...

Montblanc - you would be luky to get 1200 to 1500 for an 02 here in the UK, so when you tal k about economy the high depreciation should be taken into consideration as well as cost of spares. Driving around in a smartmobile may give some satisfaction but when the wallet takes a basihing its back to practicality.

Oh come on, that's a bit dramtic.

I think only the 1.9dCi Lag IIs are a real liability, and that's not a fault with the car, so much with it's most popular engine choice as it's not like other Renaults with said lump have escaped issue.

Most other Lag II faults are niggling and no worse than a lot of other cars on the road, so I think you're being a bit too harsh on 'em.

The price does seem rather high though, but perhaps there's reasons for that...?
