Though certainly the stuff I've read on here has put me off the idea of a Lag II (a car that purely on looks alone would have been a choice for me) I would certainly consider a Lag I estate DTi rather than a later DCi, if not a petrol. Probably a petrol actually. In fact I looked at a DTi estate recently, but it was a wreck.

As an aside I've had 6 months trouble free motoring from my ancient Cavalier... I can't remember the Megane ever going as long as 6 months without something going amiss in the 5 years I owned it. Says a lot to me The Cav is 14 years old now and cost me 400 squid. Banger motoring is the way forward chaps, if it breaks, bin it and buy another

The Vauxhall Cavalier - one of the safest cars you'll bump into

2015 '65 Vauxhall Astra SRi, and a variety of "lovely" buses

I've had my "new" Lag 2 DCi (and therefore commiting all of the sins in the thread above) for 4 months now, covered 7000 miles and no major dramas, other than a u/s o/s/f tpm. It's a great car as far as I'm concerned, looks good, very comfy, well equiped, reliable (so far) and economical. Plus, as a purchase, it was 2000 less than an equivalent Mondeo at the same age and miles, looks better IMHO and all of the rest of the comparable estates were either too expensive or too ugly. Here's to the next 25,000 trouble free miles eh?
Currently in bigiainw's garage:
2016 Skoda Octavia Scout 2.0 CR 150 in Cappuccino Beige/ 2006 Renault Clio III 1.2 16v 3dr Extreme in Post Box Red/ 2013 Renault Trafic LL29 2.0 dCi (euro 5) Sport Passenger in Luxurious Gun Metal Grey with Cruise control, now with parking sensors!!!

I have had mine for 10 months and 16000 miles and not had problems with it. This is my third lag having had both a hatch and estate lag1's and would happily buy another tomorrow if i had to. I do wonder if a lot of the diesel engine problems have come from people who have only ever had petrols suddenly driving diesels and not treating them the right way.
When looking for mine i went through the list of usual suspects at the price and found the vw uncomfortable and pricey for what it is, the citroin not good to look at the 406 to old and my wife doesn't like the mondy. The vectra is just a plain ugly car. the smae as bigianw really.
Currently in owenfackrell's garage:
