Rear door will not open
This will be the mechanism which does occur. On the earlier Renaults e.g 11's they used a nylon moulding which looked like a pipe. The stem moved the lock. This moulding broke in time but could be easily replaced via a new part from the dealer or one from a scrap yard. Megane however has over come this with a new complete elaborate design. Needless to say expensive to replace, part wise.
Whilst not having rear doors opening from the outside, will not fail your vehicle on an MOT, just give you a cautionary ticket - you may feel this is unacceptable. Dig deep then, though the labour costs should not be big. One factor to watch though if you are replacing it yourself, is the electrical side, do not mess with the computer. Other wise a rest cost could result. Haynes manual should explain the procedure.
Both my doors stopped working over a period.
