Thinking of buying 2012 Megane hatch 1.5dci

Hello

As title - looking to buy a used Megane 1.5dci 2012 model.

Main questions is whats the real MPG for motorway driving - i plan to do 900 a week
Is this up for that job?
Should I follow my fathers advice and never by a french car!

Cheers!

Andy

Hi Andy

Same engine is used in Mercedes Citan (re-badged Renault Kangoo).
As to fuel economy, a lot depends on driving conditions & technique, but you should be able to get 60+ mpg.
It just needs proper maintenance, oil change every 7-9 thousand miles.
Company my brother worked for had 3 dacias with that engine, they lasted 130 thousand miles of abuse (you know, company car) and serious neglect - I heard they didn't change the oil . At all.

Re: Thinking of buying 2012 Megane hatch 1.5dci

lots of threads on the 1.5dci its been around for some time
the mpg is good i think its around 60mpg my kangoo van did that
renault are not strong on electrics, when the engine plays up it can be a pain and if you get the dreaded metal fillings in the fuel system it will be expensive the way to slow this down same as many diesel owners do is to add 2 cap fulls of mineral 2st oil to the tank it will not smoke but lubes the pump bearings
spares are not to bad on price on par with many others as long as you dont goto renault for them
the turbo would be a thing to watch for if or should i say when it lets go it will suck up the engine oil and use that for fuel untill the engine goes bang when if it happens you have to stall the engine
the above sounds bad it does have its good points as well just cant think of any at the moment

2nd that.

And can't say for sure, but there might be a mesh filter on turbo oil feed pipe, that might need cleaning from time to time.

I have the 2014 110HP 1.5DCi Megane - drove it all the way down from the UK to Malta. Was averaging over 20.5km/l on the highway, i.e. around 50 mpg, with 3 people and a full luggage boot.
