It may be a reaction between the calcium in the water and the screenwash - this can happen in areas where the water is hard. In all honesty I put it down to the plastic the reservoir is made from - it smells like some of those cheap plastic storage boxes your granny used to have. All plastic is slightly porous to some extent so it will absorb some of the smelly fluid. I have heard of people using disolved dish washing tablets to chase the problem. I wonder if you can still buy the scented screenwash - I remember apple, strawberry and pou pourri - now I'm giving my age away - oh those where the days

It is very expensive for screen wash, but the the VAG stuff that you have to use with the 'fan' type jets (like mine ) has a really strong citrus smell. Rather than taking it all apart again, might be worth getting some from your local VAG dealer and giving it a go, just once, to see if it cures your smell.

Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow...

Wanna see what I drive? No pics of the latest Passat, but you can see the Scenic II here and the CB1000R here!

The VAG stuff is great. My dad gave me loads of it because they gave him a bottle whenever his company car was serviced (back when he had the Passat), and it's lasts ages because it's super-concentrated.
