Does anybody know if it's possible to adjust the headlights on a 2008 Renault Master motorhome for use on the continent? I'm not keen on sticking the beam benders or the Renault Headlamp Converters which just look like a bit of black plastic.

No i'm afraid they are not "adjustable"

Just wondering what the difference can be between a UK model & a right hand european one. Is it the actual reflector? I think that right hand drive models don't dip to the right they just dip straight down. I could understand the older vehicles being diffeerent as the actual glass deflected the beam but on the newer type the headlamp cover is just clear plastic.

On right hand drive vehicles the beam "kickup" is to the Nearside.. ie towards the curb (left)..

Continental headlamps kickup to the right for obvious reasons..

The way that this is done is by the "cut" of the reflector if you have new style smooth polycarbonate or glass headlights..

On "older" style ones the beam pattern is altered by the cut of the glass lens and/or the reflector..

Some vehicles do have a "continental setting" on the headlamp unit that blocks the kickup and changes the pattern to a flat horizontal beam.. (ie bmw, Mercedes etc).

This is exactly how the stick on beam deflectors work. They alter the beam by masking the kickup to a flat horizonal beam..

Of course you could invest in a set of LHD headlamp units that you could have changed before you travel abroad.. Of course the downside is that you would have to have continental deflector fitted when you re-enter the UK. Then have the Uk lights refitted..
Aftermarket light units are available much cheaper than OE from the likes of Ultra, DEPO etc

Try here Ultimate Styling they are an Ultra/Depo dealer.. Ask for the MD, Alistair White. Note their website is being rebuilt so I would recommend calling them..

Thanks for the reply, I see that it would be a bigger problem than just a simple adjustment.
It looks like it will have to be the beam deflectors they are not that expensive on ebay & it might be as well that I get a couple of sets & keep a set as a spare. We are away for 3 months & I doubt that I could get them on the continent.

I did find an article in a motorcaravanning mag on how to set them on the clear plastic lenses.

You also need 2 warning triangles for Spain, and a first aid kit for Germany. In Spain most people have the high vis vests on the back of the seat, I think that they must have been pulling a lot of cars over to check so this way they are seen.
In the past I have usually just stuck black insulating tape or even not bothered but I have heard that the French police are targetting UK vehicles at the moment to check the lights don't dazzle.

Also If you wear glasses then you must carry a spare pair in the vehicle when driving in Spain. This means anyone who you allow to drive the vehicle as well must carry a spare..

The "official" law in Spain is 2 hi-vis vests, Driver and passenger.. However the practised law is one vest for each occupant.. So I always carried 5..

In france and other euro countries you must have a fire extinguisher..

So really the rull of thumb is this for the whole of Europe.

1: Spare bulb kit (correct for you vehicle)
2: Hi-vis vests, 1 for each occupant (as detailed on your registration document)
3: Two warning triangles. Eu approved! (especially in spain, the Guardia can be hot on this)
4: Fire extinguisher
5: First aid kit

Carry the vehicle documents with you.. Ie, Registration doc, Insurance certificate / Green card (including a receipt that shows the policy has been paid for to cover spanish laws), MOT certificate.

In any case have a nice holiday..
