But you could try this trick. Many years ago the same thing happened to me many miles from home on a pi**ing wet dat whilst driving a Cavalier which has a similar setup. I got a piece of polythene from a carrier bag and placed it over the ball and pressed the cup over the top - it ended up lasting 3 months. I have also heard of people squeezing the cup with a pair of vice grips to make it a neater fit. One other trick is to melt the edges of the plastic cup with a soldering iron. None of these are a safe fix but might get you out of the perverbial hole
Its like being on a episode of Blue Peter ! Whatever next, sticky back plastic to fix a smashed window

Preventative maintenance avoids these problems. I have fitted grease nipples on the wiper spindles and greased up the linkages at time of this modification. Renewed the O-rings as found poor allowing water ingress. Piped it all to the engine compartment so there is no need to remove anything. Do a grease pump stroke at each oil change. Also fitted grease nipples on the rear calipers. A pump stroke of rubber grease annually and they won't seize up. My motto is: "Grease nipples are better than sliced bread". Got them on my wheel barrow as well. One important point: No point having them unless they are greased regularly.
