Advice Please on a scenic

My Partner has written off our vauxhall zafira and were now looking for a new car.We like the renault scenics but were only going to have around 2000 to spend on one.i wouldnt mind getting the 1.6 engine as the insurance isnt to high but not sure what the best model is!! i like the 1/2 leather interior, alloy wheels, and twin sun roofs. (not asking to much i know hehe). The only other thing is are the scenics reliable? all i seem to hear are bad things.Any advice on a suitable model would be much appreciated also news on reliability would be greatfully received.
many thanks

Personally I wouldn't buy a Scenic, if you can stretch your budget a bit the Ford Focus C-Max is well worth a look. The Scenic 1.6 engine is prone to overheating/head gasket problems, and general Renault - everything's gonna break soon- ness. On the other hand you get plenty kit in the Reno and they're comfy.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Trying to find a nice Scenic for 2 grand might be a little difficult, but if your patient you may find a phase 2 1.6 16 valve which would definately be a better bet then the 8 valve.Heres one for an example which is near me.......|240%3A1318

Obviously there are savings to be made by buying privately, but I would seriously consider ones from a dealer with a decent warranty on them.

I'm not a massive fan of them myself, but I can see that they are practical.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....

Deffo a phase 2 for the 1.6 16 valve engine. I found the 1.6 8 valve was a little underpowered (though willing enough, definetely not gutless) in the Megane hatch I had, and assuming the Scenic is a bit heavier than a Megane then of course this would be worse. The 1.6 8 valve also would seem to be prone to cylinder head gasket troubles - there have been a few reported on here lately, and I didn't have much luck either. Aside from that I didn't have any other major problems with the car though while I had it

Happy hunting
