I have never been taught it but had an idea of how to do it.

I know how to do that. You can do it from a standing start and stopping too. You can drive a normal manual car from stand to top gear then to stop without touching the clutch pedal and without grinding the gears too Not sure if it would damage the car in the long run but handy to know if your clutch ever goes on you.

I used the method to jump a car from stand on thursday when it wouldn't start, no way was I pushing it and had no jump leads.

My first car was a 1963 Herald 1360. No Synchro on 1st, so you either had to stop completely to get into 1st or learn to double de clutch. I learnt fast after bouncing of the "gate" a few times. It also had a "V" shape box, 1st was well off to the left compared to second.
I once had a clutch cable break on a Sierra at Heathrow and after starting in 1st drove back to Putney without the clutch, gearchanging by revs and engine sound, both up gear and down.
