Sorted, thanks!!

Thanks to all members who took the trouble to post and especially to LAGDTI and Pat.w.

Following their advice, my dad spoke to RCS , explained the situation and they said that as long as he has it serviced again on its second birthday, the warranty will be honoured and he can go ahead and extend it on line if he wants. They explained that the service intervals were increased in between his 07 1.5dci (12k) and my 08 1.5dci (18k).

He has the CS reps name and phone number and I got him to write down everything that was said and put it in with the service book in case of problems at a later date.

However!! What puzzles me is that my wifes 1.6vvt covers very few miles (under 17k in 5 years) and the service warning came on after 2 and 4 years, which is fine as it makes sense that they trigger on time or mileage. I wonder why Dinnie's didn't do the same after 1 year?

Such inconsistency is worrying as it shouldn't be hard to fix for Renault.

Thanks again for all your help.

Good news Mike, thanks for the update.

Renault have messed around with the service intervals a number of times in the past, especially on the diesel models. When the dCi Laguna 2 first came out they were 18k,then this dropped to 9k which we suspect was to try and extend the fragile turbos life span, they also changed the oil spec. All this is fine as long as they tell people, which it doesn't seem like they are doing.

Anyway,a happy ending in your case, although I would still seriously consider an interim oil and filter change every year/9k.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....

I feel I can throw more light onto this now.

My Megane was first reg-ed on the 29/3/08 I purchased it from Renault pre re-ged on the 1st of July with < 20 mile on the clock. Current mileage
(> 4,000) almost diddley squat.

I just contacted RCS by phone asking when the first service is required. Is it the 1st of July or 18,000 miles.

The response was 12 months after the car was first registered = 29/3/08 or 18,000 miles, whichever one comes the sooner, therefore my first service is due now. Booked in for next week @ £187.99 OMG thats a lot of a change from the price of having the 2.2 GT serviced.

Email from Renault just this second received

Thank you for taking the time to contact Renault Information Services.

As per our conversation on the afternoon of 31st March 2009, I am writing to confirm your vehicle, a Renault Mégane registration -------- is due its first service on its first birthday or 18,000 miles, whichever interval is reached soonest.

As your vehicle was first registered on 29th March 2008, your vehicle would be due its first service now.

If you require further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me, or one of my colleagues at Renault Information Services on 0800 52 51 50.
